OverviewThe Estates department at Furness General Hospital seeks a motivated, time-served and suitably qualified mechanical tradesperson experienced in plumbing and heating, mechanical fitting, or associated plant maintenance and fault finding. The role involves mechanical maintenance and installation work within acute and community NHS properties, under the Mechanical Estates Officer. The position focuses on safety, efficient operation, and service to patients and staff. ResponsibilitiesCarry out mechanical maintenance and installation work on water systems, heating and pressure systems, and steam production.Assist with systems such as ventilation, air conditioning, medical gases, and other healthcare related mechanical services, with full training where required.Work as part of a team and, where needed, autonomously; communicate effectively with colleagues, Trust staff, patients, and external parties.Self-motivate, work with limited supervision, and be prepared to flexibly support other trades to maintain building services.Qualifications and ExperienceFull apprenticeship or equivalent approved training.NVQ3, BTEC or equivalent; AP/CP training in related subjects (desirable).City and Guilds qualifications in relevant subjects (desirable).Certificate in Hot & Cold Water Systems (BS2/H) (desirable).Certificate in Disinfection of Water Supplies (WN18) and knowledge/experience of steam plant and other pressure systems (desirable).Experience of safe systems of work in a mechanical setting; experience of hot and cold water systems including Legionella control and prevention (desirable).Experience of BMS systems and hospital systems and equipment (desirable).Experience of commercial or industrial large-scale mechanical plant; the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with various stakeholders.Ability to handle information sensitively and confidentially; computer literate.Requirements and EnvironmentFlexible working will be required; you may assist other trades and undertake other tasks to maintain building services. A healthcare background is advantageous but not essential, as specific training will be provided.
