Overview

Applied AI Engineer – Developer Automation & Productivity. Company: Ledger Rocket. Location: Fully Remote (Global). Team: Platform / Developer Experience. Type: Contract (6-12 months initial term with potential for extension).

About The Role

Applied AI Engineer – Developer Automation & Productivity. Ledger Rocket is looking for its first engineer dedicated to applied AI for internal developer automation to prototype, productionize, and scale LLM-powered tools that eliminate friction from coding, testing, and deployment. Your mission is to make every engineer at Ledger Rocket measurably more efficient, week over week.

What You’ll Do

  • Build AI-Driven Developer Tooling: Create intelligent code review and PR optimization bots that catch issues early and suggest improvements.
  • Develop auto-documentation systems and context-aware knowledge assistants embedded in the development workflow.
  • Design smart test-case generation, flake detection, and automated root-cause analysis tools.
  • Optimize the Delivery Pipeline: Apply ML-based heuristics to tune CI/CD, caching strategies, and artifact storage—shaving critical minutes off every build.
  • Identify and eliminate bottlenecks using predictive analytics and intelligent resource allocation.
  • Integrate LLMs into Team Workflows: Surface deployment insights, incident summaries, and next best action recommendations directly in Slack.
  • Optimize AI-assisted coding workflows—develop best practices, prompt engineering strategies, and efficient methodologies for engineers using Claude Code and other AI coding assistants.
  • Measure and Demonstrate Impact: Define and track key metrics (lead time reduction, MTTR improvements, developer satisfaction scores).
  • Build dashboards that clearly demonstrate ROI on automation initiatives.
  • Run controlled experiments to validate improvements before full rollout.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with Platform, SRE, and Security teams to ensure solutions are compliant, observable, and cost-effective; champion best practices for AI integration with security and governance standards.

Core Requirements

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience with proficiency in Go, Python, TypeScript.
  • Hands-on expertise with modern LLM frameworks: OpenAI APIs, Anthropic, Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, and vector databases.
  • Solid DevOps fundamentals: Docker/Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar.
  • Cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, or Azure with serverless and containerized deployments.
  • Data-driven mindset: designing experiments, A/B tests, and analytics dashboards.
  • Iterative builder: bias toward shipping small, testable increments and gathering rapid feedback.
  • Excellent collaborator: enthusiastic about pair programming, workshops, and gathering input from diverse stakeholders.
  • Availability: 40 hours/week with overlap during core hours (UTC to UTC+3).

Bonus Points For

  • Experience building internal developer portals (Backstage, Cortex, Port, or similar).
  • Track record of fine-tuning or distilling LLMs for code-specific tasks (IDE assistants, code completion).
  • Familiarity with policy-as-code frameworks and secure software supply chain practices.
  • Open-source contributions to developer tooling or automation projects.
  • Experience scaling AI solutions from prototype to production in high-velocity environments.
  • Previous fintech or financial services experience.

Contract Details

  • Duration: 6-12 month initial engagement with potential for extension based on mutual fit.
  • Commitment: Full-time contractor (40 hours/week).
  • Rate: Competitive market rates based on experience and location.
  • Work Style: Async-first with regular check-ins and collaborative sessions.
  • Equipment: BYOD with potential stipend for AI compute resources.

What You’ll Get

  • Greenfield ownership: Architect our AI-driven developer experience strategy from the ground up.
  • High-impact work: Your solutions directly accelerate every engineer’s productivity—measurable impact from day one.
  • Cutting-edge tech stack: Work with the latest LLM technologies and APIs.
  • Direct collaboration: Work closely with founding team members from Revolut, JPMorgan, and HSBC.
  • Future opportunity: Strong potential to convert to permanent role as we scale.
