Apprentice - Building Services or Mechanical Engineer
Salary: National Minimum Wage for Age
48-Month Fixed Term Contract
This apprenticeship is suitable for those seeking a career in building services engineering, whether a school leaver or career changer.
The position lasts for 48 months, during which you'll learn skills and gain experience to achieve a Level 3 apprenticeship in Building Services Engineering as a Service & Maintenance Engineer. You will have opportunities to develop skills through a variety of office and site-based activities, demonstrating proficiency as required by the qualification.
You will be part of the small, friendly Technical Services Team within Thurrock Council’s Assets, Repairs and Compliance service, based at the Civic Offices, New Road, Grays, with excellent public transport links.
The team supports various building projects, and your role involves supporting the apprenticeship project to deliver a high-quality experience. Mentors will support you throughout the apprenticeship.
The role includes remote and office work from the Civic Offices.
Main responsibilities:
- Study relevant areas related to Building Services Engineering.
- Assist team members in developing new projects, including energy initiatives.
- Support supervision of maintenance and new installation schemes.
- Assist in designing M&E installations in buildings.
- Help develop estimates and budgets.
- Support site supervision of ongoing work.
- Collaborate with contractors and support project delivery for Housing Investment Programmes.
- Participate in projects from design to handover, supporting engineers as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain records of technical information and servicing schedules.
- Attend college one day a week, earning while you learn for a nationally recognized qualification.

Entry requirements:
GCSE grades 4-9 (A*-C) in English and Math for 16-18-year-olds. If not met, assessments will determine eligibility. 19+ candidates need similar grades or to pass assessments. Training mainly at Choice Training Ltd, Dagenham, Essex, with possible attendance at other facilities.
