A little more about your role…
As an Assistant Engineer / Engineer, you will be pivotal in delivering civil and bridge engineering projects, using your knowledge and skills to ensure quality, timeliness, and budget adherence. You will supervise and support junior team members.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Bridge design
- Bridge strengthening and repair, inspections, and assessments
- General civil and structural engineering support to other teams
- Feasibility studies and options appraisals
- Preparation of specifications, reports, and health and safety risk assessments
- Preparation of estimates
- Supervision of junior team members

Our Civil and Bridge Engineering team in the South West & Wales comprises over 120 engineers, technicians, and project management professionals. We are based in vibrant city centre offices, with easy access to public transport and amenities. We work across various projects in the rail and highways sectors for clients including HS2, Network Rail, Local Authorities, D&B Contractors, and private clients. Our culture of learning, development, and support offers excellent opportunities to broaden your skills across sectors.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- MEng or MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Graduate membership with the Institution of Civil Engineers or Structural Engineers, nearing chartership
- Experience in bridge design, maintenance, or assessment
- Knowledge of Eurocodes or sector-specific standards (e.g., Network Rail standards, DMRB)
- Interest in finite element analysis software and parametric design
- Commercial awareness and cost management skills
- Strong report-writing skills
- Good communication, client handling, interpersonal skills, and adaptability
