Automation Engineer

Location: Hybrid/Glasgow (3 days onsite)

Contract: 6 months - Inside IR35

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer with a strong focus on on-premise environments. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in traditional infrastructure settings and enjoys working closely with Linux systems, backup tools, and automation scripting. Cloud-centric profiles are less suitable, as this role emphasizes on-prem work rather than pipelines or cloud automation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts in Python, including API-based integrations.
  • Manage and optimize RHEL Linux environments with an emphasis on on-premise operations.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and backup teams to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
  • Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of automation issues.
  • Ensure reliability and performance of automation tools and processes.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong hands-on RHEL Linux (on-prem) experience.
  • Proficiency in Python Scripting for automation (API-based work preferred).
  • Experience with NetBackup (preferred, not essential).
  • Background in infrastructure automation without reliance on CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
