About the role
We’re hiring for a backend-leaning engineer to build modern services for a client portfolio in financial services / regulated / legal environments. You’ll join a small, collaborative team that values doers, clear thinking, and honest conversations.
Remote-first (UK-based) with quarterly travel to Bristol for team days. Occasional workshops in London or the North (ad-hoc).
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and ship Node.js services and APIs
- Work across a modern Azure stack (Functions, API Management, Service Bus/Event Hubs, Azure SQL/Cosmos)
- Contribute to architecture discussions, estimations, and hands-on problem solving
- Own code quality with testing, CI/CD, and security-by-design in regulated contexts
- Collaborate in lightweight workshops with engineering, product, and stakeholders
- Cloud: Azure (Functions, APIM, messaging, data stores)
- Tooling: GitHub/Azure DevOps, IaC fundamentals, automated testing
- Front end: Team uses React — nice-to-have, but this role is primarily backend
About you
- 2–5+ years commercial experience (or equivalent) building backend services in Node/TypeScript
- Comfortable in regulated settings (finance/legal) and pragmatic about reliability, testing, and security
- Workshop-friendly communicator; enjoys team problem solving and taking ownership
- Curious, enthusiastic, and keen to keep learning
