The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Cloud Engineer within the Digital and Technology Services function (DaTS). This post offers a flexible location across Scotland and hybrid working is available. This is a full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week, however, applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting, monitoring, and maintaining multi-cloud infrastructure solutions and services (Azure and AWS) within Scottish Fire and Rescue Services (SFRS), ensuring service delivery and usage align with organizational requirements. Key responsibilities include resolving incidents, fulfilling service requests, and implementing changes in accordance with ITIL framework principles. On a day-to-day basis, the postholder will work to ensure the reliability, quality, and performance of all cloud-hosted systems and services. Additionally, the Cloud Engineer will conduct regular system checks and maintenance tasks, proactively identifying, reporting, and addressing issues or concerns to minimize unplanned disruptions or incidents related to cloud-hosted services.
SFRS are seeking a proficient Cloud Engineer who possesses an HNC in a digital or technology-related discipline, or equivalent experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to new technical skills, ensuring ongoing relevance within the field. Substantial experience in digital or technology infrastructure support is required, along with comprehensive knowledge of both public and private cloud technologies. A history of providing technical support to users in complex environments is essential.
In addition to these core qualifications, candidates should hold a foundation or fundamental certification in recognized cloud technology disciplines. Expertise in Public Cloud Technologies, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), IaC tooling, and relevant scripting languages is highly desirable. Experience supporting emergency services environments, particularly Fire Service mobilization systems, will be considered advantageous. Possession of an ITIL V4 Foundation certification is also preferred, as it further enhances the technical competencies necessary for this position.
There is a requirement to participate in an agreed 24/7 on-call rota to provide engineering cover and advice for mobilising and essential systems.
Travel throughout Scotland, where required to meet needs of SFRS or attend or conduct in person meetings. Accommodation will be provided where appropriate.
In addition to the agreed salary, a market allowance is applicable to this post for suitably experienced candidates. Taking account of this market allowance, the potential combined maximum remuneration for this post is £48,. The salary range for this role is SFRS Grade 5 £38, - £40, per annum, and where applicable a market allowance of £8, per annum will also be included.
The market allowance is an additional payment agreed to be paid for an initial two year period. This allowance is subject to review and may be varied or removed where market pressures change or no longer exist. SFRS Market Allowance Policy outlines the specific criteria relating to the application of market allowance payments and the conditions associated with this. The market allowance will be payable where the appointee is able to demonstrate they are suitably competent, experienced and qualified to undertake the full aspects of the role.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
This post is also subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order . Therefore, the successful candidate's will be subject to a Standard Disclosure record check through Disclosure Scotland.
