Role Summary
As part of continued expansion and upcoming project work, our client is seeking a
Commissioning Engineer
to support the commissioning and optimisation of
water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and associated process systems . This role plays a key part in ensuring that all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with regulatory and client specifications. The successful candidate will work closely with design, construction, and operations teams to deliver high-quality commissioning outcomes across multiple projects within the UK water sector.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, execute, and manage
commissioning activities
for water and wastewater treatment processes, pumping systems, and control equipment.
Ensure all systems meet
performance, quality, and environmental standards , in line with industry regulations (e.g., DWI, EA).
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams-including process, mechanical, electrical, and ICA engineers-to
identify, troubleshoot, and resolve
commissioning and performance issues.
Develop and maintain
commissioning documentation , including method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), reports, and handover packs.
Support
site acceptance testing (SAT)
and performance testing in line with project requirements.
Provide
training and technical guidance
to operations and maintenance personnel on newly commissioned assets.
Drive
continuous improvement initiatives , sharing lessons learned and best practices to enhance commissioning processes across the organisation.
Ensure compliance with
health, safety, and environmental (HSE)
standards throughout commissioning activities.
Essential Skills & Experience
Degree in
Engineering
(Mechanical, Electrical, Process, or related discipline).
Proven experience in commissioning within the
water or wastewater industry , ideally involving treatment processes or network infrastructure.
Strong understanding of
process control ,
quality assurance , and
H&S compliance
within water projects.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and fault-finding abilities.
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across project teams.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Professional certification or accreditation (e.g., CEng, APM, or IChemE/IMechE membership).
Familiarity with
UK water industry standards
and frameworks (e.g., WIMES, WRAS, DSEAR, CDM).
Experience working on
AMP projects
or with major UK water utilities.
Knowledge of
SCADA systems , telemetry, and process instrumentation.
