Component Engineer

Overview:
The Component Engineer is responsible for part number set-up and configuration and associated technical tasks. My client operates through purchasing from franchised and non-franchised suppliers. The component engineer will be responsible for non-franchised technical queries received from the customers. Record keeping and updating the MRP system will be integral parts of this role.
The component engineer will be responsible for part number set-up, additionally they will support the business with; BOM set-up and testing, before passing BOM activities to Production for approval.
The component engineer will be responsible for reading drawings, supporting the BDM's with identifying supplier options, and translating this information onto the MRP system.
This is a varied role, based around technical product competence. There is an expectation on understanding where to look for technical records and making this information available publicly within the company. This is primarily a desk based role, however there will be times when a hands on approach is needed, when product inspection and verification is required.

Is responsible for the product files within the MRP system, including introduction of new products, and maintenance of BOM information, working in accordance with the ZNew process. Associated tasks for customer alias / specifications / parts numbers are included in this.

Maintains an up-to-date awareness of the product categories and product ranges, and ensures there is suitable information resources available to staff. Support staff in queries related to technical capabilities of products requested by our customer base.

Read customer specific drawings at the point enquiries are received from customers. Support the sales team with understanding what products or manufacturers are qualified to supply to the customers and help translate requirements through the MRP system to make clear instructions to the Purchasing team.

Maintains and updates MRP system with information about the electronic component manufacturers and distributors world-wide extending beyond suppliers.

Supporting the business operations with identifying commodity codes and updating the MRP system.

Ensure there are adequate resources for product inspection, maintaining a library of catalogues, datasheets and technical drawings.

Receives and verifies technical drawings from both customers and suppliers, logs and stores these, making accessible to all staff. Contributes towards the PN processing for AP numbers.

Is capable of leading physical inspection activities, supporting inspectors and quality dept depending on workload and priorities. |

Has a detailed level of knowledge of the product types, product manufacturers and distribution channels of the electrical components market in the UK and world-wide.

Has a good understanding of the information resources within the company IT systems, the relationships between them and the tools available for data entry, update and retrieval.

Has good knowledge of the technical features and benefits of products and can articulate them verbally and in writing
