Purpose of the Role

To deliver and sustain the reliability agenda outlined by the Group Leader (GL) or Production Site Manager (PSM), providing first-line support to all plant and process operations. The role requires active participation in problem-solving and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives using lean tools and techniques, with strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering value through service.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Safety

Role model safe and hygienic behaviours in line with "Go for Zero" and GMP standards. Champion high standards across GMP, HSE, and process control. Provide cover for the Engineering Group Leader or Planner when required. Support business operations through additional tasks as directed by GL or PSM. Flexibility to work across all shift patterns to cover holidays and sickness. People & Collaboration

Participate in emergency response drills and first aid training; proficient in using emergency equipment (e.g., breathing apparatus, chemical suits). Take ownership of personal development and career progression. Foster effective teamwork and build cross-functional relationships, including with suppliers and contractors. Support and mentor Technical Operators in first-line maintenance activities. Operational Excellence

Service and repair pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical equipment to a high standard. Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns. Lead and track CI projects with focus on timeliness, cost, and delivery. Apply SMED principles and design out manual interventions to reduce human error. Use advanced diagnostic tools (e.g., PLC data capture, thermal imaging, ultrasonic testing, vibration analysis) for troubleshooting. Standard Work & Problem Solving

Comply with all regulatory, safety, environmental, and hygiene procedures. Perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and record activities in CMMS (HolisTech). Maintain accurate engineering shift reports and escalate priority issues per site procedures. Develop autonomous maintenance schedules and train operations staff. Ensure timely repair of breakdowns and implement root cause solutions. Maintain 5S standards in engineering workshop and stores. Skills & Experience

Essential

Excellent written and spoken English. Strong fault-finding and time management skills. Experience in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Adaptable to change and capable of implementing improvements. Proficient in MS Office and basic IT tools. Understanding of engineering schematics (Mechanical/Electrical/Pneumatic/PI&D). Specialisation in core areas such as Facilities, Services, Electrics, Mechanics, Pneumatics, or Automation & Control. Time served Engineering apprenticeship in a FMCG manufacturing environment with a recognised qualification (NVQ level 3 or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical engineering Appropriate Health and Safety Training Desirable

Knowledge of lean manufacturing or asset management principles. Experience using 8-step problem-solving methodology. Familiarity with OEE data and CI tools.
