Job Description
Control Systems Engineer
Location: United Kingdom (various postings on the listing).
Overview: Control Systems Engineers are sought to design, develop, implement and support PLC and SCADA/DCS based control systems within industrial environments. Roles may involve on-site commissioning, project coordination, and collaboration with electrical and automation teams. Hybrid/onsite requirements may apply depending on the project and location.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement PLC-based control systems and configure SCADA/DCS platforms.
- Create and review functional and detailed design specifications in line with industry standards.
- Lead small projects or sub-teams, perform internal and customer acceptance testing, and drive quality assurance across the project lifecycle.
- Develop and self-test control system software to meet defined design specifications.
- Prepare design documentation, test plans, FAT/SAT documents, and ensure proper change control.
- Carry out intrusive surveys on live control systems where required, identify risks, and define hardware/software requirements.
- Support commissioning activities and provide specialist control system assistance to commissioning teams and project managers.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers and other stakeholders to define robust control architectures and meet project milestones.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in PLC systems and SCADA/DCS platforms (examples include Siemens PCS7, Rockwell ControlLogix, Schneider EcoStruxure, WinCC, Zenon).
- Proficiency in IEC 61131 languages (ladder, function block, structured text).
- Experience with design documentation, test plans, QA standards, and hands-on commissioning.
- Willingness to travel with a full UK driving license; site-based commissioning experience is a plus.
- Relevant engineering degree or equivalent experience (electrical, automation, process control).
Benefits
- Competitive salary (details vary by role/location).
- Holiday allowances and pension/benefits as per employer policy.
Note: The listing includes multiple postings across the UK and may reference different sectors (energy, nuclear, water). This refinement consolidates core responsibilities and qualifications common to Control Systems Engineer roles without reproducing location-specific boilerplate.
