John Charles Search is recruiting on behalf of a global manufacturer of material handling and conveyor solutions. Our client designs and delivers advanced conveyor and automation systems that support industries such as logistics, warehousing, e-commerce, and distribution.
They are seeking a Controls Engineer to join their engineering team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional who enjoys working on automated systems, PLC programming, and control integration. You will be a key player in delivering tailored conveyor solutions to blue-chip customers across the UK and Europe.
Key Responsibilities
*
Design, program, and test PLC-based control systems for conveyor and material handling projects.
*
Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to ensure seamless system integration.
*
Support project commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimisation at customer sites.
*
Develop documentation including wiring diagrams, functional specifications, and user manuals.
*
Provide technical support and training for customers and service engineers.
*
Ensure all systems comply with relevant safety and regulatory standards.
Candidate Profile
*
Education: Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical, Controls, Automation, or related field.
*
Experience:
*
Hands-on experience with PLC programming (Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley, or similar).
*
Background in conveyor systems, material handling, or automation machinery.
*
Experience in commissioning and field support.
*
Skills & Knowledge:
*
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, Modbus, etc.).
*
Ability to read and produce electrical/control schematics.
*
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
*
Soft Skills:
*
Excellent communication and teamwork ability.
*
Customer-focused mindset with willingness to travel for projects.
