Overview

The Data Center Technician will handle the setup, maintenance, and support of servers and network infrastructure within a data center environment. This position involves hardware installation, structured cabling, inventory tracking, and managing the logistics of incoming and outgoing equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Install and secure servers, storage units, and network switches according to established procedures.
• Manage copper and fiber cabling with precision and organization.
• Conduct regular inventory checks, update asset databases, and resolve any discrepancies.
• Oversee shipping and receiving operations, ensuring accurate labeling, packaging, and documentation.
• Work closely with operations, security, and facilities teams to maintain smooth workflows.
• Troubleshoot hardware and cabling issues, escalating complex problems to senior staff.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications such as A+ or BICSI Installer I are advantageous.
• Minimum of one year of practical experience in a data center or comparable IT environment.
• Ability to safely handle heavy equipment and perform tasks at height.
• Familiarity with logistics, shipping processes, and inventory management systems.
• Comfortable working in varied temperature environments and on rotating shifts.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of structured cabling standards for Cat6/Cat6a, single-mode, and multi-mode fiber.
• Experience using cable testers, crimping tools, and rack installation equipment.
• Basic understanding of server hardware, including RAID setups, blade servers, and rack PDUs.
• Experience with asset management software and barcode scanning.
• Awareness of ESD procedures, safety practices, and personal protective equipment requirements.
