The Opportunity

This is a senior M&E Data Centre Engineer role with a remote-first setup that combines hands-on technical work with strategic, site-specific projects. The base location is flexible within the UK, with regular travel to facilities across Europe and beyond for critical projects and high-level technical support. The role involves acting as a trusted authority, providing technical guidance to on-site teams and leading commissioning, upgrades, and major maintenance projects to optimise and standardise M&E systems across a growing portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Remote Technical Support: Act as the first point of contact for complex M&E issues from on-site engineering teams across our European portfolio. Provide remote diagnosis, troubleshooting, and guidance to ensure swift resolution.
  • Project Leadership: Lead commissioning and handover of new data centre builds and major upgrades. Oversee critical mechanical and electrical projects to the highest standards.
  • M&E Subject Matter Expert: Serve as the go-to expert for all things M&E, contributing to design reviews of new facilities to ensure robust, efficient systems.
  • Operational Excellence: Develop, refine, and enforce best practices for M&E maintenance, procedures, and documentation. Conduct audits to ensure compliance with operational standards and safety protocols.
  • Troubleshooting: Perform root cause analysis for complex incidents, providing detailed reports and actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with senior management, project teams, and external vendors, communicating complex technical information to diverse stakeholders.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of hands-on M&E experience within a data centre or mission-critical environment.
  • Background: Experience with recognised data centre consultancy or hyperscale environments is preferred; other senior-level M&E experience in a critical environment will be considered.
  • M&E Focus: Strong technical knowledge of mechanical (HVAC, chillers, CRAH units, cooling systems) and electrical (high-voltage power, UPS, generators, switchgear) systems.
  • Travel: Willingness and ability to travel regionally and internationally, often on short notice, to support projects and incidents.
  • Soft Skills: Self-motivated, autonomous, highly organised, able to manage own schedule remotely.
  • Right to Work: Must hold the right to work in the UK.
