Overview

Data Engineering Team supports decision-making within the Trust through the provision of a comprehensive information and analysis service by managing and optimizing the flow, storage, and accessibility of data from clinical on-clinical systems within the Trust. The post holder plays a pivotal role in ensuring that data flows smoothly, remains consistent, and is available for decision-making, insights and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the smooth transition of onsite data warehouse solutions into a more efficient, scalable and secure cloud infrastructure while supporting the current data platform and infrastructure.
  • Maintain the current data warehouse solutions by ensuring operational efficiency, routine maintenance, issue resolution, monitoring and reporting.
  • Design scalable and reliable data platforms on cloud infrastructure, ensuring data integrity and supporting continuous delivery of data solutions.
  • Design, development, and implementation of scalable and efficient data pipelines and workflows using Azure Data Factory and other ETL tools.
  • Build and manage data lakes, warehouses and databases on Azure (including Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake and Azure SQL Database) and develop future data processing solutions in Microsoft Fabric.
  • Take full ownership of assigned responsibilities across advisory, implementation, and review phases, engaging effectively with technical teams and senior leadership.
  • Act as an internal technical leader, innovator and champion of engineering excellence; collaborate with the wider IDT team to translate requirements into effective solutions.
  • Provide technical support for existing database applications; design, develop and implement new data feeds, ETL processes, and data marts to support evolving analytical and reporting needs.
  • Proactively review new and emerging technologies and their potential benefit to the Trust; foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Develop solutions and manage the implementation of NHS Information Standards, mapping data standards and implementing common data models; maintain robust data modelling practices.
  • Ensure compliance with NHS Information Standard Notices (ISNs) and data standards; develop algorithms to transform data into usable models and ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Maintain and support the current data warehousing infrastructure to support reporting needs by managing ETL processes; provide advanced technical knowledge to support information needs.
  • Ensure data accuracy and timeliness; adhere to security and Information Governance policies and procedures.
  • Act as a team leader and provide deputising support to the Data Engineering Manager as required; diagnose complex problems and formulate solutions; document all technical processes.
  • Advise and guide colleagues on technical and best practice matters as necessary.

Responsibilities (detailed)

  • As a member of the Trusts Data Engineering team, serve as a strategic and architectural expert in the development and maintenance of the data warehouse and its associated systems and solutions.

Person Specification

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Over 2 years' experience in developing dashboards using Tableau Desktop, creating data sources using Tableau Desktop.
  • 5 years data handling experience, with at least 2 years in a Tableau role.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL Server 2008 R2 and at least 4 years' experience using it.
  • Tableau server administration experience.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Data Protection Act.
  • Experience in using other BI tools like QlikView, SSRS, Power BI and Business Objects.

Education & Qualification

Essential

  • Degree level or equivalent experience relevant to role.
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area or equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • Management qualification or equivalent experience.

Skills & Abilities

  • Administrative and organisational skills.
  • Good analytical skills for spotting weaknesses in processes.
  • Ability to manage own workload and work to tight deadlines.
