Our Data Engineers enable public sector organisations to embrace a data-driven approach by providing data platforms and services that are high-quality, cost-efficient, and tailored to the clients’ needs. They develop, operate, and maintain these services to provide maximum value to data consumers, including analysts, scientists, and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

At Made Tech we aim to positively impact the future by using technology to improve society. You will contribute to client projects as a hands-on Data Engineer, delivering engineering work and upskilling client teams. You will participate in the hiring process and ongoing development of the data capability, and represent Made Tech internally and publicly via presentations. You’ll need to deliver outcomes for users and mentor teams, and share knowledge with others (e.g., blog posts or talks).

Responsibilities (high level)

  • Contribute to client projects as a hands-on Data Engineer
  • Deliver engineering work and upskill client team members
  • Participate in hiring and development of the data capability
  • Represent the company internally and publicly (presentations)
  • Share knowledge and mentor others

Skills, knowledge and expertise

We look for the following skills and experience. If you don’t have all listed, you’re encouraged to apply nonetheless.

  • Working directly with clients and users
  • Designing and implementing efficient data transformation processes at scale (batch or streaming)
  • Contributing to cloud infrastructure underpinning data systems with a DevOps approach
  • Basic understanding of modern data architectures (warehouses, lakes, meshes)
  • Agile practices (Scrum, XP, Kanban)
  • Showcasing and presentation skills
  • Evidence of self-development; keen learners
  • Empathy and people skills

Desirable experience

  • Working at a technology consultancy
  • Pair programming
  • Producing data science deliverables with data scientists (e.g., productionising ML models)
  • Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Working knowledge of statistics
  • Working with multidisciplinary digital and technology teams
  • Experience in the public sector

Eligibility for SC clearance

An increasing number of customers require SC clearance. All successful candidates must have eligibility for SC. Eligibility requires 5 years of continuous UK residency and 5 years of employment history (or full-time education). If it becomes apparent during the interview process that you are not eligible, we will not progress your application and will inform you of the reason.
