Design Engineer
We are seeking a highly competent and detail-driven Design Engineer to join our friendly engineering team. This office-based role is focused on the creation, development, and amendment of 3D models using CAD Software, supporting the design and delivery of mechanical and electrical plant installations associated with water treatment process systems.
You will be responsible for producing accurate and compliant technical drawings and models that align with project requirements, client specifications, and industry standards. This role demands a practical thinker with a solid engineering understanding, able to interpret specifications and work collaboratively across departments.
Key Responsibilities:
* Create, develop, and amend detailed 3D Revit models and 2D drawings for mechanical and electrical plant systems.
* Liaise and meet with Project engineering team, site team and Clients to ensure all designs are accurate, buildable, and fully coordinated.
* Interpret design briefs, technical specifications, and site survey data to develop workable CAD based designs.
* Update and maintain project drawing registers and document control protocols.
* Support the production of General Arrangement (GA), fabrication, and installation drawings.
* Ensure all drawings meet the required industry and company standards, including compliance with water authority specifications where applicable.
* Maintain drawing libraries and project records in accordance with internal systems and procedures.
* Assist in preparing design packs for submission to clients, consultants, and statutory bodies.
* Identify and report any design risks or constructability issues early in the design process.
* Contribute to continuous improvement within the design function by developing templates, workflows, and best practices.
Key Skills and Experience Required:
* Proficient in Autodesk Revit (MEP/Plant) – minimum 2 years’ practical experience.
* Experience in 3D modelling of M&E systems and equipment layout within building or plant environments.
* Experience of process piping systems
* Attend client sites to review current installation, integrate new installations and modifications
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD and or similar packages and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Strong understanding of engineering principles and building services.
* Understanding of Material property selection
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and P&IDs.
* Excellent attention to detail and commitment to design accuracy.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Experience in water treatment, mechanical plant, or utility sectors is advantageous but not essential.
Qualifications:
* HNC / HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline preferred.
* Revit certification or formal Autodesk training desirable.
Hours of work, 40 hours, Monday to Friday, (office hours)
