The Opportunity
Are you a hands-on engineer with a passion for decarbonisation and a background in district heating systems? We're supporting a major UK energy operator in finding a Heat Networks Engineer to join their dynamic team. This is a permanent opportunity to work on innovative heat decarbonisation projects and make a lasting impact on energy infrastructure.
You’ll be involved in the full lifecycle of distributed energy systems — from design and commissioning through to optimisation and upgrades — helping to ensure safe, efficient, and low-carbon heating networks across multiple UK sites.
Key Responsibilities
Design, commission, operate and optimise low-carbon heat networks
Lead or support the delivery of construction and upgrade projects across CHP, gas boilers, biomass boilers, and heat pumps
Manage contractor activities on-site, including H&S compliance, QA/QC, and performance monitoring
Collaborate with engineering, O&M, and asset teams to ensure smooth integration and continuous improvement
Carry out root-cause analysis and propose technical solutions for improving network reliability and efficiency
Support decarbonisation goals by implementing best practices in system design and maintenance
What We’re Looking For
~5 years of experience in district heating, heat networks, or decentralised energy systems
Experience working with Combined Heat & Power (CHP) units, gas boilers, and preferably biomass boilers
Strong experience with heat pump systems (essential)
Either:
Proven background in heat networks design/commissioning
OR proven background in operations and maintenance (O&M)
Practical project delivery experience, including contractor management, H&S, QA/QC
Great communication and collaboration skills
A proactive, safety-first approach to engineering and delivery
