EC&I Engineer — 3 month Contract role — Remote — Outside IR35 — £50-60/hour

This contract role is remote and outside IR35, offering flexibility while working on cutting-edge nuclear engineering assignments.

About the Role

As a Senior/Principal EC&I Engineer, you will define and manage the scope of work, ensuring all activities are executed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. You will lead and supervise a team of engineers, manage subcontracts, and deliver designs that support Design Reviews, HAZOPs, and safety cases across complex nuclear projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead EC&I design, specification, procurement, installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, and operator training for nuclear projects
  • Provide technical consultancy and liaise with multi-discipline teams
  • Manage project quality, progress, cost, and documentation
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers, including resource management and recruitment
  • Manage contractors and sub-contractors while reinforcing a strong safety culture
  • Support sales, customer care, and bid preparation

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant technical/engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • Full UK driver's licence
  • Working towards or holding Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the nuclear industry
  • Strong understanding of design requirements for nuclear safety cases
  • Proven experience managing sub-contracts and leading technical teams
  • Knowledge of safety regulations including CDM
  • Skilled in checking design documentation, drawings, and calculations
  • Strong organisational, collaboration, and deadline-driven skills

Desirable Attributes

  • Chartered Engineer or near chartership, membership in IET or similar
  • Experience integrating EC&I design with control systems (PLC/SCADA)
  • Experience in design substantiation for nuclear safety cases
  • Defence sector experience
  • Experience in bid preparation
