Role Summary Were seeking an Intermediate Design Engineer to join their team. The ideal candidate will take ownership of design tasks in mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering, working under senior guidance but with increasing autonomy. You will contribute to all phases of designfrom conceptual and technical designs through to detailed design and coordinationensuring compliance, feasibility, and quality. Key Responsibilities Develop mechanical, electrical & environmental designs for building services, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), electrical distribution, lighting, plumbing, fire protection, and sustainable systems. Produce detailed design drawings, specifications and calculations. Collaborate with structural, architectural and other engineering disciplines to resolve design interfaces. Coordinate and manage design work via BIM (Building Information Modelling) tools, ensuring accurate modelling and clash detection. Ensure all designs comply with relevant British Standards, building regulations, health & safety and sustainability best practices. Prepare reports, presentations, and cost estimates as required. Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to understand requirements, communicate design proposals, address queries and incorporate feedback. Participate in site visits, inspections, or commissioning activities as required to support design verification or handover. Assist in mentoring/junior engineers and support their development and review of their work. Skills & Qualifications A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Typically 3 - 6 years of experience in building services / MEP design. Proficient in design software: e.g. AutoCAD, Revit (or other BIM tools), ductwork & pipe sizing tools, load calculation software. Strong technical design capability

competent in systems sizing, electrical calculation, heating & cooling load analysis, lighting design, etc. Good understanding of building regulations, British Standards and sustainable design principles. Ability to think critically and solve engineering problems independently. Good communication skills

able to liaise with stakeholders, present designs, explain technical issues in clear terms. Organised and able to manage multiple tasks/project workstreams to meet deadlines. Desirable Experience in commissioning management, sustainability / energy modelling or environmental engineering. Knowledge of ISO standards (e.g. ISO 19650) and experience working in a BIM delivery environment. Familiarity with net-zero design, fabric-first approaches or low energy building principles.
