We are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. This role can be based anywhere in the UK.

Responsibilities

You will play a key role in all aspects of hydropower projects, from feasibility studies and concept design to construction and commissioning. You will:

  • lead the electrical engineering design of hydropower projects, including generators, control and instrumentation systems, protection, substations and transmission lines
  • perform design, model and analyse electrical and electronic systems to ensure project feasibility and compliance with industry standards
  • take line management responsibility for some team members, support business growth and strategy development, and own project deliverables
  • collaborate with the growing transmission and distribution business, with opportunities to engage in grid upgrade projects including new transmission lines and substations
  • provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and work with civil, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines for integrated project design
  • contribute to a culture of sustainable energy and significant industry impact

About You

  • Ideally Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with the IET, or working towards
  • Experience with large rotating machines (generators or motors); hydro and/or pumped storage hydro experience is highly desirable but not essential. Electrical experience in other sectors (Energy and Water) is advantageous
  • Proficient in producing and interpreting design drawings and documents (single line diagrams, key line diagrams, block cable diagrams, equipment sizing fault ratings, load schedules, specifications and reports); familiar with collaborative reviews and design solutions
  • Strong skills in giving technical presentations to clients and design engineers; active participation in design discussions and workshops
