Electrical Engineer to provide electrical automotive experience within a small team of R&D engineers involved in the installation and commercialisation of hydrogen fuelled heavy duty vehicles and machines.
The role requires a proven track record in delivering innovative approaches and novel solutions from an individual with the flexibility and self-motivation to seize the initiative and tackle challenges head on. A clear interest in applying the latest technology within a project focused, results orientated environment is essential, alongside the ability to work as part of a team and focus on delivery with a practical hands-on approach.
Electrical Engineer Role:
Develop solutions for a variety of vehicle applications using battery-electric propulsion systems.
To integrate battery-electric vehicle technology alongside hydrogen systems to provide efficient and reliable hybrid powertrain solutions.
Design, prototype and evaluate electrical systems for a wide range of vehicles.
Lead technical investigations and analyse the performance of both components and vehicles.
Electro-mechanical component specification and sourcing.
Design and installation of R&D prototypes.
Component and system design.
Designing and building prototype wiring harnesses for both low- and high-voltage vehicle systems.
Validation testing of components and systems as required.
Set up and configuration of CAN based systems.
Data collection and analysis.
Working as part of a cross-functional team (both internally and externally) on collaborative projects.
Provide project planning expertise to assist the company in assessing and defining the short term to medium-term functional resource requirements across the R&D activities.
Delivering across several R&D projects (sometimes simultaneously), to provide technical project outputs in a timely manner, with a focus on practical, workable solutions.
Knowledge of vehicle architecture and subsystems.
Integration of components such as sensors, actuators, ECUs.
Ownership of the electrical specification and component selection for fully integrated systems, sometimes first of a kind within the context of complex multi-functional projects.
Defining control system requirements to best fit each project’s requirements and communicating this effectively with other members of the team with specialist functional capability.
Building and validating R&D prototypes.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
A willingness to travel to off-site locations in the UK and abroad for work will be necessary.
Electrical Engineer Requirements:
Essential:
* Electrical/Automotive Engineering Degree, IMI/NVQ considered alongside relevant workplace experience.
* Knowledge of high voltage electrical systems and vehicle architecture.
* Relevant on the job automotive experience.
* Solid understanding of systems such as batteries, BMS, inverters, motor controllers, thermal management.
* Ability to read, produce and amend automotive wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
* Ability to communicate technical data effectively both verbally and in written form at appropriate level to colleagues, technical contacts and customers.
* Experience with mechanical and electrical component integration on vehicle applications.
* Ability to produce accurate written reports.
* Excel as a team player and strive to maximise performance.
* Working knowledge of engines and/or fuel cells.
Desired:
* Experience with R&D in electric vehicles, motorsport, or a similar domain.
* Knowledge of ISO 26262 (functional safety).
* Working knowledge of 3D CAD.
* Working knowledge of electric drivetrain.
* A passion for automotive innovation.
