A vacancy for an Electrical Engineer has arisen in the Terminals and TMA team at the Portsmouth site. This team is responsible for the satellite communication terminals products which include antenna equipment and management software. The work of the team encompasses terminals for land, sea and air domains, however the primary focus at the Portsmouth site is for the development and sustainment of naval antennas for the maritime domain.
Responsibilities • The Electrical Engineer role involves • From product or architecture requirements produce a specification. • Define interfaces of the electrical systems. • Produced system diagrams and/or circuit diagram. • Consider and design to electrical safety guidelines. • Perform detailed design in CAD/CAM implementation on component/ equipment/ mechanical level in accordance with engineering design rules. • Define test strategy and validate design.
Tasks and accountabilities • For Electrical system / component, provide sufficient detailed data and information about system elements to enable the implementation consistent with architectural entities as defined in models and views of the system architecture and in accordance with the allocated requirements. • Verify the compliance of a detailed design solution toward baseline of validated requirements for a single system / component. • This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.
Skill Set Essential • The demonstrated ability to master the area of electronics and electromagnetics at system, subsystem, equipment, module or component level, performing requirements capture and validation, design, simulation, integration, verification, certification, and support activities, analysis (power quality, power generation, distribution and storage, power conversion and utilization). • Manage and develop electronics equipment and components level of analogue and digital circuits, printed circuit board layout, schematic capture, electromagnetic compatibility and interference, taking into account the system specific environmental conditions. • Knowledge of test and measurement techniques as well as latest electrical or electronic design methods and tools. • If applicable, consider Electrical Wiring Installation Standards (EWIS) principles.
Requirements and Design Knowledge • Ability to provide sufficient detailed data and information about system elements to enable the implementation consistent with architectural entities as defined in models and views of the system architecture and in accordance with the allocated requirements • Ability to verify the compliance of a detailed design solution toward baseline of validated requirements for a single sub-system / equipment / component / module. • Ability to work closely sharing both industrial and functional design view, from the very early stages of the design through the serial production phase and up to the in- service life of the product (whole product lifecycle), working in close collaboration between the Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and any other disciplines involved throughout the whole product lifecycle and/or in the Multifunctional Team (MFT). • Understand the organization, infrastructure, constraints and limitations of Program industrial planning, supported by Quality/supply chain. • Understand global systems/products and their interdependencies during industrialization phase. • knowledge of the Configuration Management basic processes and rules (product identification, product change, product baseline and conformity) and how they interact with the industrial / business processes. • Knowledge of E3D for circuit diagrams and Windchill for configuration preferred but not essential. • Educated to at least Degree Level or equivalent in a recognised engineering discipline as recognised by the IET.
Desirable Knowledge in the following areas is preferred but not essential: • Military standards in the maritime domain relating to electronics or EMC (e.g DEF-STAN 59-411, MIL-STD-461). • Military satellite communications systems • The candidate should preferably hold a Chartered Engineer status and a member of the IET or other equivalent body
