We are a leading international, independent real estate consultancy with an all together different approach. Due to exponential growth and developing a new service line, we are looking for an Energy Engineer to join our Operational Engineering team and work with our FM Consultancy engineers. You will be based in our newly fitted London office opposite St Paul’s, covering a variety of engineering consultancy across different building sectors.

We have launched our updated Building Optimisation service to integrate with our bespoke client portal and are seeking an experienced and driven Engineer to support the roll out to our clients. The role will include pitching the service to clients, delivering energy saving results and maintaining client relationships to cross-sell further work.

The goal of our building optimisation projects is to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and support clients in achieving sustainability targets. This role blends technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and client-facing communication to deliver measurable improvements across sectors such as commercial, industrial, high-end residential and retail/leisure.

As part of Hollis' Operational Engineering team, you will gain exposure to all aspects of MEP Consultancy and may have FM Consultancy skills to provide a joined-up service to clients. You will work on unique projects with our forward-thinking team. If you’re not chartered yet, Hollis is CIBSE accredited and can help you pursue chartership and membership, supporting your career aspirations.

You will have the opportunity to take ownership of this role and help grow this new service line, with consistent support to advance your career and mentorship for junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Support the roll out of Building Optimisation.
  • Conduct in-depth energy audits and building performance assessments (HVAC, lighting, controls, BMS, etc.).
  • Analyse building data to identify energy-saving opportunities, performance inefficiencies, and optimisation strategies.
  • Develop and implement energy conservation measures (ECMs), using modelling tools and real-time data.
  • Advise clients on retrofit opportunities, low-carbon technologies, and control strategies to improve building performance.
  • Support the commissioning, re-commissioning, and tuning of building systems to ensure optimal operation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., ESG and Building Physics) and external stakeholders (e.g., asset and property managers).
  • Create clear, actionable technical reports, business cases, and client presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., CRREM, CIBSE, GREEB) and support ESG reporting.
  • Monitor post-implementation results to verify performance improvements and ROI.
  • Help manage and deliver maintenance-led projects.

Extended responsibilities

  • Producing pre-acquisition and disposal technical due diligence reports.
  • Carrying out planned preventive maintenance CAPEX reports.
  • Management of projects and acting as project lead.
  • Support internal M&E team with maintenance-led project delivery and our FM Consultancy team to ensure client satisfaction through high-quality execution of planned/reactive maintenance work.
  • Input into innovation and continual improvement of services and products.
  • Support wider teams providing technical support and maintenance management duties.
  • Meet target KPIs on WIP management including HIW.
  • Business development and client care awareness, cross-selling Hollis services and managing relationships.
  • Opportunity to manage and mentor graduates and junior engineers.

Your Profile

  • Relevant engineering degree, including building services modules or equivalent education/practical experience.
  • Relevant experience in building optimisation, energy consulting, or building performance engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, BMS operations/control, building physics, and low-carbon technologies.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and guidelines (e.g., CIBSE, CREEM, GREEB).
  • Understanding of UK & Ireland building regulations and Net Zero/ESG goals.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills; ability to liaise professionally with clients and colleagues.
  • Client-facing with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office packages.
  • Knowledge of MS Projects, IES, MBS is advantageous.
  • Understanding of JCT contracts; additionally beneficial to understand NEC, Bluebeam and AutoCAD.
