Engineer II - Failure Analysis

New Yesterday

The Failure Analysis Engineer is responsible for providing investigation and root cause analysis of product failures. Works closely with various Engineering functions (Reliability, Design, Manufacturing, etc) in a closed-loop, corrective-action process to improve product quality and reliability performance.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researches, performs, and documents visual, electrical, mechanical and other test methods (destructive and non-destructive) as required to isolate failure modes
  • Identifies and documents the most probable Root Cause(s) of failures
  • Ensures integrity of failure data including conditions, symptoms, and failure modes
  • Identifies trends in failures and provides quantitative analysis of such trends
  • Drives Corrective Action for simple failures
  • Prepares complete, concise Failure Analysis reports for internal and external customer communications
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Failure Analysis Engineers regularly work in office, development and test labs, and manufacturing facilities. Travel to international locations may be required.

    SKILLS:

  • Proficient knowledge and troubleshooting skills in electronic circuits, components, PCBs, and manufacturing processes
  • Strong knowledge in the physical structure, properties, and behavior of engineering materials in order to identify primary modes of failure for electrical components, PCBs, and assemblies
  • Familiar with diagnostic equipment (SEM, EDX, X-ray analysis, scopes, etc), statistical yield analysis, physical failure, and root-cause analysis
  • Requires effective verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey factual learnings
  • EXPERIENCE:

    Essential:

2-3 years of engineering/ failure analysis experience

    Desirable:

Demonstrated Failure Analysis of complex, electro-mechanical assemblies

    Knowledge of Materials Sciences
