Overview

A dual skilled Field Service Engineer for the food packaging division, specialising in Secondary Packaging, is required at Syntegon.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, and maintain Syntegon Secondary Packaging equipment, including final mechanical positioning, levelling, running equipment to agreed specifications and site acceptance tests.
  • Travel globally (approximately 80% of the time), with flexibility for short-notice travel and occasional weekend work.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and planned servicing according to service agreements and schedules.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software issues; identify root causes and liaise with engineering teams when necessary.
  • Provide customer training on equipment operation and routine maintenance, manage customer expectations, and advise on future Maintenance Programmes.
  • Respond to breakdowns and short-notice call-outs, working to tight timescales to minimise downtime.
  • Produce detailed reports following site visits and submit relevant expenses in a timely manner.
  • Support product trials and identify opportunities for machine upgrades and modernisation.
  • Maintain up-to-date product knowledge through ongoing training.
  • Support the manufacturing facility in Bristol when required.

Qualifications / Knowledge and Skills

  • Qualifications in Mechatronics, mechanical, or electrical engineering
  • Electrical engineering – understanding of modern and older control systems across a wide range of platforms
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Understanding correct methods of mechanical fitting, from changing bearings to setting up machinery
  • Ability to adjust high-speed packaging machinery to achieve optimum efficiency
  • Ability to identify worn or damaged parts from assembly drawings
  • PLC theory and fault-finding (Allen-Bradley preferred; Beckhoff and Siemens advantageous)
  • Commercial awareness; ability to spot opportunities for upgrades and modernization and inform customers before reporting to sales
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to prioritise work to challenging deadlines
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work remotely, often overseas in different time zones
  • Full driving licence
  • Experience in a similar field service role is desirable
  • Exposure to FMCG manufacturing – food and packaging is an advantage
  • Packaging engineering and technical skills are desirable
