FPGA Design Engineer

Cambridge

Up to £80,

A new opportunity has arisen with a highly innovative engineering organisation based in Cambridge, working at the forefront of radar and surveillance technology for defence and security applications.

They are looking for a skilled FPGA Design Engineer to join their multidisciplinary engineering team and take ownership of the design and development of advanced digital signal processing solutions, used in real-time, high-reliability environments.

This role is office based, offering full involvement in the product development lifecycle, from concept through to implementation, test, and integration. It's a chance to contribute directly to the development of high-performance systems in an environment that values technical depth and engineering rigour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and verify FPGA-based digital signal processing systems using VHDL or Verilog.

  • Collaborate closely with embedded software, electronics, and systems engineering teams.

  • Contribute to system-level architecture and interface definition.

  • Support design verification, testing, and debugging of FPGA modules.

  • Ensure designs meet relevant performance, timing, and reliability criteria for deployment in defence applications.

  • Essential Experience:

  • Proven commercial experience in FPGA design (VHDL or Verilog).

  • Strong understanding of FPGA toolchains, preferably Xilinx (Vivado/ISE) or Intel (Quartus).

  • Familiarity with simulation, synthesis, and timing analysis tools.

  • Experience working with high-speed data interfaces and signal processing.

  • Comfortable working in a high-integrity or safety/mission-critical environment.

  • Desirable:

  • Exposure to radar, RF systems, or sensor technologies.

  • Knowledge of embedded systems and integration with microprocessors or SoCs.

  • Background working in defence, aerospace, or secure communications sectors.

  • Offer:

  • Salary up to £80, depending on experience.

  • Office-based role in Cambridge.

  • Engaged, technical environment working on real-world challenges.

  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge systems that are deployed globally.

  • This is a fantastic opportunity for an FPGA Engineer looking to make a meaningful impact in a technically rewarding role. You'll join a close-knit team where your input is valued and the technology you help develop plays a critical role in real-world operations.
