Functional Safety Engineer role at TipTopJob, Crewe-By-Farndon, England, United Kingdom. Contract until 23 December 2026. Hybrid work arrangement (2-3 days on site per week; occasional international travel to Prague every 3-6 months). 37 hours per week. Outside IR35. Pay rate to be discussed on application.


Role


We are seeking a skilled Functional Safety Engineer to join the Electrical Engineering department. You will facilitate all Functional Safety activities across the department in accordance with ISO 26262 standards. This role is ideal for an engineer with proven experience in automotive functional safety, or for someone from a technical conformity role eager to develop their expertise. You will be process-driven, an excellent communicator, and capable of supporting cross-functional projects that ensure compliance with international safety regulations.


Responsibilities



  • Ensure relevant vehicle functions are developed in line with ISO 26262, applying the Functional Safety process across all lifecycle stages (Concept, Development, Validation, End of Life).

  • Support Function Owners in scoping technical changes to Functions, Systems, and Components, while leading reviews such as Hazard Analysis, Risk Assessments, and Development Interface Agreements.

  • Act as the technical point of contact for Functional Safety within Electrical Engineering, developing and implementing safety strategies as required.

  • Perform verification reviews of engineering work products to confirm ISO 26262 compliance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and group partners to deliver critical safety milestones on time.


Qualifications



  • Deep understanding of ISO 26262 Functional Safety standards.

  • Hands-on experience with Hazard Analysis, Risk Assessments, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, and Systems Engineering.

  • Knowledge of EE functions such as energy management and lighting systems.

  • Ability to guide engineers in producing compliant documentation.

  • Strong communication and influencing skills across technical forums.

  • Analytical and problem-solving approach with a focus on process excellence.

  • Relevant Engineering Degree (or equivalent experience).

  • Qualification in Functional Safety is highly desirable.

  • Associate membership of a relevant professional institution advantageous.
