What you'll be doing
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Supporting the IET Fleet Engineer with the review of NIRs and safety related defect reports produced in accordance with Railway Group Standard GE/RT8250 in conjunction with HRE and recommended appropriate actions for the fleet.
- Managing technical engineering, safety monitoring, management of change and performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensure that safety related issues are appropriately identified, investigated, and addressed in order to maintain an acceptable safety performance.
- Liaison with Vehicle owners, maintainer and design authority to ensure compliance to leases and best value for GWR and its customers.
- Research and development of technical solutions with HRE to enhance safety, technical and financial performance in relation to the fleet.
- Managing software updates and engineering changes to ensure that all systems are current and compliant with operational standards.
- Representing GWR at relevant industry groups.
- Supporting the IET Fleet Engineer in all tasks and responsibilities to ensure smooth operations and effective IET fleet management.
Who we're looking for
You'll need to be:
A motivated and committed individual with a proven technical background in T&RS for a minimum five year period.
- Preferably a Chartered Engineer or demonstrating working towards chartered status. (Minimum requirement of a qualified technician in railway T&RS maintenance and repair having served a recognised engineering apprenticeship or qualified to NVQ level 3 in engineering competencies).
- Strong interpersonal skills and also be self-directed and able to effectively work with teams at HQ, HRE and within depots.
- Flexible and able to work alone as well as in a team.
- Able to gather data and carry out root cause analysis of failure and defect modes
As a minimum you'll need to have:
- A proven T&RS engineering technical background
- A good understanding of Railway Engineering standards and proven record of scrutinising and feeding back solutions to enable the approval of engineering changes.
- Effective verbal, written and IT skills.
- Technical knowledge of Train Maintenance and Engineering systems, specifically software related.
- A good understanding of GWR's and the wider industry safety management systems.

Additional Information:
- Flexible in approach and an ability to work varied shifts and/or out of hours attendance.
- Prepared to work away from home location for short periods of time.
- You'll need to be based within an hour of Swindon Station and within easy travel distance along the Swansea–Paddington Great Western Main Line corridor.
