Discover a career in your hands at HMRC. HMRC\'s Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) is responsible for the department\'s civil and criminal investigations. CODE (Covert Operations, Digital Exploitation) sits within FIS and provides investigative tools and covert techniques to front-line investigations, developing access to new technology and systems for investigators. The CODE Technology team delivers and maintains a specialist IT infrastructure and a national network of services to HMRC investigators across 24 sites. CODE Technology drives a broad portfolio of change initiatives to sustain and transform legacy technologies and to deliver innovative new solutions designed around customer needs.

This role sits within the CODE Technology team and supports the wider Capability, Development, Infrastructure & Innovation (CDII) team. It plays an integral role in supporting HM Government\'s fight against serious and organised crime, with investigations totalling hundreds of millions of pounds each year. The Infrastructure Engineer role is an opportunity for an experienced, forward-thinking individual who enjoys delivering exceptional support to users and developing their knowledge within a supportive team.

Responsibilities

  • As a Higher IT Infrastructure Engineer, ensure robust, reliable high-performance systems and services meet business needs.
  • Build, administer, maintain, and monitor diverse systems including servers, storage, endpoint management, networks, telephony, and business applications.
  • Collaborate with fellow engineers to provide third-line support and project delivery across a wide spectrum of IT systems.
  • Engage with other teams and departments outside of IT to achieve shared objectives.
  • Contribute to influencing future technical direction within a dynamic and innovative team environment.
  • Provide 3rd-line technical support for incidents, manage service requests, tasks and problems within ITIL processes and SLAs.
  • Support datacentre management activities including capacity and availability management.
  • Install, manage, and maintain end user devices in a Windows environment.
  • Contribute to the assurance programme to ensure assets are regularly reviewed and improved where necessary.
  • Provide technical support to projects, ensuring delivery of non-functional requirements and continual service improvement.
  • Be familiar with installed hardware and software and the procedures used in the IT Infrastructure area.
  • Travel within the UK for meetings and infrastructure work; may require occasional overnight stays and on-call work outside of standard hours.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

  • A UK national.
  • Hold SC clearance or be willing to be SC cleared to take up duty and be prepared to attain DV clearance.
  • IT technical role with an infrastructure background and technical understanding of infrastructure (e.g., virtual machines, datacentres and environments).
  • Experience with or awareness of Service Management and Operations, particularly Request Fulfilment, Incident/Problem/Change Management.
  • Experience with or awareness of CISCO ISE GUI administration (desirable).

Desirable Criteria

  • Hold a Full UK Driving Licence.
  • ITIL 3 or V4 Foundation.
  • CompTIA Security+.
  • CompTIA Network+.
  • VDI Management.
  • Experience in CISCO equipment and configuration.
  • Experience in OpenText/Microfocus software.
  • SIEM experience and event analysis.
  • RHEL administration.

Salary and benefits: Salary £42,631 with employer pension contributions into the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
