Job Title: IoT Engineer
Location: Redruth, Cornwall (Hybrid)
Group: Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions, part of Spirax Group. The organization focuses on control and management of steam, electric thermal solutions, peristaltic pumping and related fluid technologies. This role sits within the IoT & Data Management team supporting the Spirax Group Digital Strategy and cross-functional product development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Development & Delivery: Collaborate with internal & external delivery teams to design, develop and release IoT-enabled connected products and systems. Lead and support the integration of IoT and connectivity into product platforms and retrofit solutions, delivering technical solutions that meet architecture and design goals and maximize the value of the group IoT Platform.
- Technical Leadership: Provide guidance throughout the product lifecycle, enabling delivery of intelligent services on the WMFTS product portfolio. Define edge capabilities for data capture, process and enrich data via the Azure platform and support both delivery and development of intelligent services.
- Collaboration & Compliance: Work with cross-functional teams (Group Digital Strategy & Development, NPI, IT/IS) to ensure on-time, within-budget delivery and future-proofing of projects. Ensure products are compliant for global deployment in collaboration with regulatory and validation teams and adhere to WM QMS.
- IoT On-boarding & Support: Pre-sales support to agree onboarding approaches for customers onto connected services; assist customer technical teams in defining and implementing IoT products; help develop required skills for longer-term ownership; provide maintenance and ongoing support.
- Azure & Edge Data Infrastructure: Design and implement data collection from sensors at the edge, ingest into Azure data pipelines, and enable data-driven services. Experience with edge devices, Python (desirable), and Azure data platform is preferred.
- Agile Delivery: Prioritize features through iterative agile development cycles, balancing user, stakeholder and business needs against feasibility and effort. Travel as required to Spirax Group locations, customers and partners; a full driving license and current passport are required.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelors degree in technical/computer engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience in cloud software, IoT and related technologies; coding, DevOps & Agile experience
- Demonstrated IoT delivery using MSFT Azure (or equivalent) services
- Knowledge of IoT aspects: connectivity, security, provisioning, device management, data ingestion, real-time processing, analytics, edge and end devices, data off-loading, and integration with external systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration; ability to present clearly in writing and presentations
- Leadership and teamwork skills; comfortable in an agile/fast-paced environment; able to multitask and meet tight timelines
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities; ability to interpret data and user requirements to steer product development
- Maintains a broad understanding of the technology landscape and industry trends
