Role Overview
As an IT Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of on-premise and cloud infrastructure. You will ensure maximum system uptime, oversee backup and disaster recovery processes, and support continuous improvements in the organisation’s cyber security framework.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone with a strong technical background in infrastructure management, a proactive mindset, and a genuine passion for delivering secure, reliable IT services.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain IT infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments.
- Manage day-to-day operations of core infrastructure including servers, firewalls, switches, and related systems.
- Perform regular system checks and proactively monitor infrastructure performance to maintain uptime.
- Take ownership of backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure robust business continuity.
- Contribute to cyber security awareness initiatives and promote security best practice.
- Lead vulnerability assessments, patching, and incident response activities.
- Administer and maintain Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy environments.
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues within the IT team.
- Participate in and lead IT projects that enhance business capability.
- Provide support for remote workers and maintain secure connectivity (VPNs, remote access).
- Deliver on-site technical support when required and participate in occasional out-of-hours maintenance or response.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field (2:1 or equivalent).
- 3+ years’ experience in an IT infrastructure or systems engineering role.
- Proven experience supporting and maintaining enterprise infrastructure and hardware.
- Proficiency in configuring and managing switches (Cisco, Dell, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2016–2022 administration.
- Experience with virtual server environments, backup, and replication technologies.
- Expertise in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Working knowledge of network and endpoint security tools (firewalls, XDR, EDR).
- Familiarity with IT ticketing and change management systems.
Desirable:
- Cyber Security or infrastructure certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, VMware, Azure, CCNA).
- Experience administering Azure Infrastructure and Intune Endpoint Management.
- SAN administration experience.
- Exposure to ITIL-aligned environments.
- Previous experience within the manufacturing or engineering sector.
- SharePoint administration experience.
