Job Title: Junior Software Engineer – Embedded & Web Systems Location: Poole, Dorset (Office-Based with Flexible Working)
About the Role We’re partnering with a fast-growing technology company that develops innovative sports training systems, combining embedded hardware and web-based platforms to deliver real-time performance insights
They’re looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join their Poole-based team. This role offers the chance to work across the full technology stack—from microcontrollers to cloud platforms and web applications—helping create data-driven, immersive training tools used globally.
You’ll be part of a collaborative team where your contributions directly shape products and make an impact on how athletes train. This is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, learning new technologies, and seeing their work used in real-world applications.
What You’ll Do Software & Embedded Development
Develop real-time embedded applications in C++ for microcontrollers (Arduino, Atmel Studio).
Build near real-time applications for Raspberry Pi using Qt and Linux.
Design and maintain web interfaces, dashboards, and APIs (JavaScript, PHP, HTML/CSS, JSON, XML).
Extend custom scripting to create new training modes while maintaining backward compatibility.
Work with MariaDB/MySQL databases and PHP scripts for reliable data handling.
Systems & Networks
Support software architectures integrating embedded devices, servers, and cloud platforms.
Configure Linux servers, VPNs, and secure networks for stability and scalability.
Monitor live systems and provide second-line technical support as needed.
Innovation & Collaboration
Contribute to prototyping new features and training modes.
Collaborate with internal teams and external developers to deliver high-quality solutions.
Research emerging technologies to enhance products and services.
Support & Maintenance
Assist with commissioning and setup of devices.
Provide technical support for deployed systems.
Maintain documentation including specifications, APIs, and installation guides.
What Our Client Are Looking For:
Essential Skills
Strong programming skills in C++ and Linux environments.
Experience with embedded systems (Arduino, Atmel Studio, Raspberry Pi, Qt).
Proficiency in web development (JavaScript, PHP, HTML, CSS, JSON, XML).
Knowledge of databases (MariaDB/MySQL) and API design.
Ability to configure and maintain Linux servers, VPNs, and secure networks.
Familiarity with Git/Bitbucket version control workflows.
Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Desirable Skills
Experience with leisure and sports technology, IoT devices, or consumer electronics.
Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices.
Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, and Agile methodologies.
Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
Travel & Networking Occasional travel may be required within the UK and internationally for installations, collaboration with partners, or industry events.
