The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Bridge Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, with shared office space and remote work options. We welcome applications from Lead Engineers across these regions.
Our Structures Team designs major civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Scotland, with values exceeding £1bn.
Amey manages long-term Trunk Road Network Management contracts in the Southwest and Northeast, with durations up to 12 years, along with various other projects across the UK.
These contracts offer opportunities for technical and professional growth at all career stages.
The role
Our Lead Bridge Engineers support the Design team and work closely with Transport Scotland. As a Lead Senior Engineer, you will lead projects, mentor junior staff, and support the Design Team Leader.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions in compliance with standards and client requirements
- Preparing and reviewing designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation
- Overseeing junior staff and ensuring quality and timeliness
- Managing project budgets and costs
- Liaising with clients and suppliers
- Contributing to bids and work-winning activities
- Promoting health and safety practices
What you will bring to us:
- Experience and expertise in civil engineering, likely from a Senior Engineer role
- Ability to produce and review designs independently
- Knowledge of health, safety, and welfare management
- Experience as a main engineering contact, e.g., CRE for Network Rail schemes
- Design and specification process knowledge
- Proficiency with relevant software and analytical tools
- Understanding of CDM and risk assessment
- Leadership and people management skills
- Chartered or incorporated status is desirable
