LOCATION(S): Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, London or Edinburgh

HOURS: Full time (includes on-call rota)

WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, with at least two days per week at the office

Our Cyber & Physical Defence Centre is modernising to stay ahead of cyber adversaries, emphasizing innovation and excellence in cyber security.

Join us as a Lead Detection & Response Engineer in our Cyber Defence Centre. You will lead the Detection & Response Engineering team, manage performance and development, and drive strategic projects to enhance cyber defense capabilities.

What you’ll do

  1. Manage Detection and Response Engineers, supervise performance, and set objectives.
  2. Mentor team members across different levels, supporting professional growth.
  3. Participate in recruitment and onboarding, fostering our organizational culture.
  4. Communicate leadership directives and updates.
  5. Support escalation and incident response with Senior Engineers.
  6. Review and approve process artifacts and operational documentation.
  7. Design, code, and operationalize detection rules based on threat models.
  8. Serve as escalation point for detection and response decisions.

What you’ll need

  1. Proven experience in cyber defense leadership.
  2. Knowledge of threat detection lifecycle, attacker behavior, and TTPs.
  3. Understanding of advanced cyber defense concepts like Continuous Detection/Response and Threat Intelligence.
  4. Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  5. Effective project planning and performance management skills.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Familiarity with governance, compliance, and operational security standards.
  8. Knowledge of detection logic and detection-as-code (DaC).
