. Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery. The Role: As the Lead Engineer for Underfloor Systems, you will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of all underbody components beneath the vehicle floor. This includes structural panels, aerodynamic shields, NVH treatments, thermal protection, and mounting interfaces. Youll lead cross-functional teams to ensure these systems meet performance, durability, and manufacturing requirements while supporting vehicle safety, efficiency, and refinement. Area of Responsibility System Ownership: Lead the engineering development of underfloor systems including floor pans, tunnel reinforcements, heat shields, aerodynamic panels, and NVH insulators. Ensure robust integration with chassis, powertrain, exhaust, and body structures. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Vehicle Architecture, Manufacturing, Thermal, NVH, and Safety teams to deliver optimized solutions. Support virtual builds, physical prototypes, and launch activities across global sites. Supplier & Material Management: Engage with Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers to manage tooling, materials, and delivery timelines. Evaluate and approve materials for weight, cost, corrosion resistance, and thermal performance. Performance & Compliance: Ensure underfloor systems meet crashworthiness, thermal shielding, aerodynamic, and acoustic targets. Validate compliance with global safety and environmental regulations. Innovation & Sustainability: Drive adoption of lightweight materials, modular designs, and sustainable manufacturing practices. Explore new technologies such as active aero panels, composite shields, and recyclable insulators. Issue Resolution & Quality: Lead root cause analysis and resolution of engineering issues during development and post-launch. Support warranty investigations and continuous improvement initiatives. Knowledge / Experience Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Materials Science or related discipline. Strong experience in automotive body or chassis systems, with a focus on underfloor components. Strong proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., CATIA V5), PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter), and CAE validation processes. Proven leadership in cross-functional teams and supplier engagement. Excellent communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.
