POSITION SUMMARY: We’re looking for an experienced and driven Lead Engineer to join our Whole Vehicle Engineering team. In this role, you’ll take ownership of leading the design and development of new products and product variants, ensuring projects meet technical, quality, and customer requirements. You’ll coordinate design activities, mentor engineers, and work closely with Delivery Managers and Principal Engineers to drive innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement. This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on engineer with strong leadership skills and a passion for shaping the future of vehicle design.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Work with the Delivery Manager to create and maintain the detailed project plan.
  • Generate and maintain project design brief in Teamcentre based on project plan and relevant SOW.
  • Ensure completion of design tasks in line with plan using assigned resource.
  • Work with delivery manager to ensure resource level is appropriate to meet the plan.
  • Ensure design meets both the customer specification and any relevant technical specifications/standards.
  • Use the ECN process to approve all design releases.
  • Day to day management of design team.
  • Steer, coach and mentor engineers.
  • Escalation of any issues to project team.
  • Organize, host and document design reviews as required.
  • Control the introduction of Engineering change, adhering to the recognized ADL change criteria.
  • Lead teams of both internal and external engineers or design partners on one or more projects to define, deliver and verify design requirements.
  • Endeavour to achieve common designs, interfaces and principles across all systems, platforms and territories where appropriate. Promote the re-use of parts and modular design philosophies.
  • Use agreed business processes, systems and standards & identify any improvements or highlight issues with them.
  • Support New Product Introduction at UK and international build sites, managing build issues through to closure.
  • Work in accordance with the Engineering Product Development process and demonstrate compliance with the deliverables through design records and documentation. (inc. SOW/NUDD/DVP/SSO)
  • Interface directly with internal and external customers on technical issues and requirements.
  • Ensure high customer satisfaction through safe, reliable and fit for purpose designs.
  • Lead the design team to achieve compliance with relevant internal and international standards, working with the Whole Vehicle Verification team to clarify the requirements and ensure designs are compliant.
  • Support Principal Engineers in developing project targets in areas such as quality, cost and weight.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Engineering Degree or equivalent experience in relevant discipline
  • High level of experience in PSV design and typical manufacture processes
  • Good level of industry knowledge
  • Experience in system definition, development and requirements capture
  • Good people management skills
  • Ability to overcome language barriers and maintain relationships with people from different backgrounds
  • Ability to work in a structured environment and follow business processes
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • The ability to provide technical direction
  • The ability to communicate at all levels
  • Good team player
  • Able to work without supervision under own initiative
  • Strives for continuous improvement
  • Willingness to travel
