Experienced Field Service Engineer required for a permanent role working with waste machinery, balers and compactors.
This is a lead role where you will act as technical expert and mentor to the wider engineering team providing support remotely and on site, therefore, it is essential that you have previous experience with waste machinery.
The role may suit someone working in the industry and looking for their next step, the role is both field and workshop based.
The role:
Provide technical support and guidance to field engineers, including telephone support, remote diagnostics, and one-to-one on-site training. Lead on complex fault diagnosis, repair, and commissioning work across the range of vertical and horizontal balers, compactors, and waste machinery. Deliver install, commission, and undertake operator training on customer sites. Travelling to customer sites to undertake service, repair and maintenance of equipment Installation and commissioning of new equipment on customer sites Undertaking refurbishment of machinery in the Yorkshire based workshop Mechanical Electrical and hydraulic system maintenance Welding and fabrication as required Undertaking machine refurbishment to high standards Slinging, lifting, and safe handling of heavy equipment Review and improve service procedures, contributing to technical documentation and standard operating practices. Support process improvements, recurring fault analysis, and feedback to suppliers or manufacturers. Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
The person:
Mechanical bias with confident electrical skills and the ability to weld Happy to strip down, refurbish and rebuild heavy plant equipment Previous experience with hydraulic equipment is essential Excellent communication skills, happy to talk to, support and train small groups of people Confident diagnostic skills with the ability to work independently Minimum of 5 years' hands-on experience with balers (vertical and horizontal), compactors, and similar waste or recycling machinery. Strong electrical and hydraulic knowledge with the ability to carry out advanced diagnostics. Proven experience in welding (essential) and fabrication (desirable). Excellent communication and mentoring skills, with a supportive and professional approach to team development. A methodical and proactive problem solver who can work independently and as part of a wider team. Full UK driving licence (clean). Forklift Truck Licence (preferred - training can be provided). Flexibility for occasional overnight stays (with paid subsistence and food allowance). Willingness to work occasional Saturdays (paid overtime).
