Lead Mechanical Engineer – Contract (6 Months)

Location: UK (Site and/or office-based depending on project needs)

Overview
We are seeking a Chartered Lead Mechanical Engineer for a 6-month contract to oversee the mechanical scope of major and minor projects in sectors such as chemical manufacturing, hydrogen, CCUS, petrochemical, paper, and glass. The role covers machinery, vessels, and packaged equipment, from specification preparation through to vendor review and design scheme development.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of the mechanical scope, including preparation of technical specifications, reviewing quotations, assessing vendor drawings, and producing design schemes.

• Ensure all mechanical engineering work complies with contract requirements.

• Attend coordination, progress, and programme/resource meetings as required.

• Control costs and monitor expenditure against budget and forecast.

Requirements

• Engineering degree and Chartered status (or working towards).

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in relevant sectors (chemical manufacturing, hydrogen, CCUS, petrochemical, paper, or glass).

• Strong background in engineering and contracting within both major and minor project environments.

• Highly motivated and confident working at a detailed level.

• Flexible, self-driven, and effective working independently or within a team.

Desirable

• Experience with process plant.

• Extensive requisition experience for mechanical equipment and packaged plant.
