Job Title: Protection and Control Engineer
Location: Hybrid (Ideally 2-3 days/week in Stafford)
Contract Length: Initial 6 Months
IR35 Status: Outside IR35

About the Role:

We are urgently seeking an experienced Protection and Control Engineer with strong National Grid project experience to join a leading engineering consultancy on a contract basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to high-profile transmission and distribution projects, with a focus on delivering high-quality protection and control designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and review protection and control schemes for high-voltage substations (400kV/275kV/132kV).
  • Prepare and validate protection settings and coordination studies.
  • Produce detailed design documentation including SLDs, wiring diagrams, and relay configuration files.
  • Liaise with National Grid and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with NG standards and specifications.
  • Support project delivery from concept through to commissioning.
  • Ensure all work adheres to CDM regulations and health & safety standards.
  • Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience working on National Grid transmission projects.
  • CDAE Authorisation (current or recently held).
  • Strong understanding of NGTS, TP106, and ENA standards.
  • Proficient in protection relay configuration (e.g., Siemens, GE, ABB).
  • Ability to interpret and produce technical drawings and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
