Location and Travel

Base Location: Preference for Glasgow, Perth, Inverness, or Aberdeen offices. Remote or hybrid working within the UK is also possible.

Travel: Occasional travel (less than one trip per month, typically up to 2 nights) may be required to attend the Glasgow office or project sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in detailed design reviews, HAZCON/HAZOP sessions, and support construction, installation, commissioning, and project completion activities.
  • Provide cable engineering expertise by reviewing system designs, assessing technology options, selecting underground cable routing, performing current rating calculations using CYMCAP, and evaluating interface requirements.
  • Develop technical scopes and specifications for subsea and underground cable elements, including modifications to existing assets.
  • Review cable system prequalification and type testing reports, verify contractor/consultant detailed designs, and witness factory and site acceptance testing.
  • Offer technical support to site teams to ensure installation quality and successful commissioning of cable systems.
  • Evaluate tenders, procure specialist services, and manage consultant inputs.
  • Promote and manage safety across projects by implementing CDM procedures and ensuring compliance with HSE and industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Project Managers to identify and mitigate engineering and quality risks.
  • Provide technical expertise on high-profile or technically complex projects.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in transmission-level cable projects, including document review, factory acceptance testing, installation, and commissioning – ideally up to 400kV, covering both subsea and land cables.
  • Strong technical assessment skills with the ability to evaluate multiple solutions.
  • Good understanding of legislation impacting Transmission network management, including Construction Design Management and Electricity Safety, Quality, and Continuity Regulations.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the confidence to address critical project issues.
  • Strong communication skills, diligence, and the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent technical experience). Chartered Engineer status or progression towards professional accreditation is desirable.
