Lead Software Developer position in Newcastle upon Tyne (Onsite). Up to £130,000 + Package. We’re hiring for a newly formed, high-performing tech team based in central Newcastle. This is a rare opportunity to join an ambitious venture backed by major players in consulting and global investment — with real scope to shape the technical direction from day one.

You’ll be joining a tight-knit group of exceptional engineers solving challenging problems across a dynamic, fast-paced domain. This is a hands-on leadership role, suited to someone who’s not only technically strong but comfortable taking ownership, working closely with the business, and mentoring others as the team scales.

What you’ll be doing:

• Taking ownership of key technical projects, driving design and delivery across a fast-moving roadmap
• Leading from the front — writing high-quality, scalable code in Python or Java (C# also considered)
• Working closely with business users and stakeholders to truly understand the problem behind the request
• Helping shape the engineering culture and mentoring junior developers as the team grows
• Staying ahead of tech trends, challenging existing processes, and bringing innovation into the day-to-day

What we’re looking for:

• Excellent programming skills — ideally Python or Java, with strong OO fundamentals
• Experience working with SQL databases and modern cloud platforms (Azure or AWS)
• A solid academic background — minimum 2:1 in Computer Science (or similar) from a Russell Group university
• Strong communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Someone with an entrepreneurial mindset, curiosity, and a high level of personal accountability
• Financial services experience is a bonus but not a requirement
