We are seeking experienced Manufacturing Engineers to live, work and learn about building nuclear-powered submarines in Barrow, United Kingdom.
This is an incredible opportunity to contribute to a pioneering program, delivering an essential sovereign capability for Australia, all whilst taking the next step up in your career.
After receiving world-class training and once in a lifetime work experience overseas, you will return to South Australia to carry out build activities on the SSN-AUKUS Submarines at the Osborne Shipyard. Living and working in South Australia will be non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.
About the Opportunity
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing processes and ensuring the successful delivery of submarine projects, influencing how future manufacturing is carried out within our facilities, conducting process maps, producing analysis, technical query resolution and demonstrating tangible outputs for improvement. You will also be responsible for translating the Engineering Design intent (drawings, standards etc.) into Manufacturing Engineering data for use in facilities capability development.
You will be immersed into the processes and procedures ultimately required to construct the SSN-AUKUS submarines in Australia, and will engage in a tailored development plan, giving you exposure to world-class submarine programs and specific rotations whilst in Barrow.
Please note this is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
Responsibilities
Develop industrial capabilities, infrastructure and technology into business cases, whilst working closely with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to align manufacturing processes with project requirements
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality
Introduce and integrate new manufacturing technologies and methodologies
Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with defence industry standards and regulations
Oversee quality assurance protocols and conduct regular audits to maintain high standards
Mentor and develop a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians whilst fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
Manage resources effectively, ensuring optimal allocation and utilisation of resources to meet project demands
Eligibility Criteria
Tertiary qualifications in a technical discipline relevant to Engineering
An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance
Experience in Engineering or Project oversight to major and complex projects, oversight of facility configuration, and management of system/facility health
Demonstrated knowledge of production and production systems ideally with submarines (Coatings, Build, T&C), aircraft or heavy construction
Stakeholder management and networking experience
