Role Details The M&E Engineer will take responsibility for the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of maintenance, operations, and project works across RAF Fairford. Central to the role is ensuring adherence to JSP375 Safe Systems of Work, producing robust documentation, and providing technical leadership to Skilled Persons and contractors on site. Mainstay Recruitment is proud to be supporting our client in the recruitment of an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Engineer to join their team at RAF Fairford. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work within a highly regulated and technically challenging environment, providing essential engineering services to the Ministry of Defence estate. The successful candidate will play a pivotal part in reducing corrective actions, improving operational performance, and supporting the MoD in its drive towards carbon reduction and sustainability targets.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure all operations and maintenance activities are compliant with JSP375 Safe Systems of Work. Produce comprehensive and accurate Risk Assessments and Method Statements, ensuring high standards of safety and compliance. Assess and verify the competence of Skilled Persons, providing clear supervision, coaching, and professional development. Deliver technical advice and guidance to site teams, supply chain partners, and end users, ensuring effective resolution of engineering issues. Identify potential deficiencies in estate safety, escalating risks appropriately to maintain compliance and operational integrity. Support the planning, execution, and delivery of project works, contributing to innovation and carbon reduction objectives. Manage resources effectively across multiple sites, ensuring availability of personnel, equipment, and materials to meet operational requirements. Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota, providing emergency support when required. Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with senior management, colleagues, clients, and stakeholders to ensure seamless operational delivery. Act as a subject matter expert for M&E compliance, contributing to the continuous improvement of systems, processes, and standards.
Candidate Profile
Fully qualified Mechanical or Electrical Engineer (time-served apprenticeship or equivalent recognised qualification). Extensive experience in the application and management of Safe Systems of Work, particularly within JSP375 (Authorised Person Mechanical and Pressure Systems) or other regulated environments. Proven track record of supervising technical operations, including planning, resource allocation, and delivery oversight. Strong experience in leading, coaching, and assessing technical staff to ensure competence and safety. Ideally, hold Authorised Person (AP) tickets in Electrical or Mechanical disciplines. Candidates without AP tickets will still be considered, with full training and certification support provided.
Demonstrable problem-solving ability with strong decision-making skills in high-pressure situations. Proactive, organised, and able to work independently across multiple locations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels. Full UK Driving Licence with flexibility to travel across sites and work on an out-of-hours rota. Package & Benefits
Salary: Up to £47,000 per annum (candidates with AP tickets) / Up to £45,000 per annum (candidates without AP tickets). Car Allowance/Company Car: £3,600 per annum.
