Our client, a respected partner of the UK Ministry of Defence, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer. In this role, you will collaborate closely with various functional teams to develop products that meet our customers' needs. This position offers the unique opportunity to engage in pioneering research of novel mechanical technologies, addressing the challenges of the future. The successful candidate will have the chance to participate in ground-breaking research of innovative mechanical technologies to tackle upcoming challenges. Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate on mechanical design and validation activities within a multidisciplinary team, focusing on both prime and variant products, including piece parts and assemblies. Engage with manufacturing teams to address and resolve production issues and defects efficiently. Provide support for functional and environmental testing and trials to ensure product reliability and compliance. Coordinate with suppliers and purchasing departments to resolve technical queries and ensure smooth procurement processes. Plan and report on daily activities to ensure alignment with project milestones and deliverables. Clarify and help generate requirements, while challenging unnecessary specifications to reduce lead time, unit production cost (UPC), and design complexity.

What do you need?:

Proficient in using Creo 3D design tools for mechanical and structural modelling. Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture/assembly (DFMA) principles. Experienced in conducting tolerance studies, mass property calculations, and material selection. Knowledgeable in environmental testing and gasket sealing techniques for robust product design. Skilled in tooling and fixture design to support efficient production workflows. Familiar with structural design and application of relevant Defence Standards. Competent in performing FMEA to identify and mitigate design risks. Experienced in managing product lifecycles and supporting industrial validation activities. Actively contributes to multifunctional engineering teams and leads or participates in design reviews. Demonstrates cross-disciplinary awareness with an appreciation of other engineering domains.
