Overview

Job title: Mechanical Design Engineer. Job Type: Contract. IR35 Status: Inside IR35 - PAYE. Start date: ASAP. Duration: 6 - 12 Months. Pay rate: Up to £55 p/h - PAYE. Location: Aldermaston. Hybrid/Remote working: 3-4 days on-site per week. Hours of work: Up to 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed designs and specifications for mechanical systems using CAD software for nuclear applications.
  • Develop and test prototypes to validate designs, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety standards.
  • Conduct technical research to inform design and engineering methods, focusing on nuclear-specific requirements.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets, ensuring adherence to nuclear industry regulations.
  • Liaise with clients, designers, engineers, and manufacturers to ensure coherence and quality, particularly in the context of nuclear safety.
  • Prepare technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals, ensuring compliance with nuclear regulatory standards.
  • Perform computer simulations and experiments to virtually test and refine designs, focusing on nuclear-specific scenarios.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in technology, design trends, and engineering best practices within the nuclear industry.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably within the nuclear industry.
  • Proficient with CAD software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiar with Nuclear industry standards and regulations.
  • Experience with UK Security Vetting: active UKSV SC or DV Clearance.
