Summary

Freedom is seeking an OHL Design Engineer to join the electrical services design team based in Perth, Scotland. The role involves working on complex engineering projects to help achieve the country’s Net Zero targets. Projects cover the entire energy system, including generation, transmission, distribution, storage, and end-user applications in manufacturing, processing, data, and recycling sectors.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the team lead, responsible for designing and delivering overhead line (OHL) projects, providing technical expertise and guidance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Design and develop OHL projects, ensuring compliance with standards and client requirements.
• Develop technical solutions and provide guidance on OHL design aspects such as conductor sizing, insulator selection, lightning protection, and structure design.
• Review and approve technical documents, including specifications, drawings, and calculations.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure timely project delivery.
• Support and mentor team members, including tendering and training junior engineers.
• Operate within quality assurance and project management frameworks.
• Attend site visits and meetings as needed.

Qualifications and experience required:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in OHL design within the power transmission and distribution industry.
• Strong knowledge of OHL design principles and UK standards.
• Experience producing designs, calculations, reports, and drawings for projects from 11kV to 400kV.
• Proficiency with design software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Understanding of CDM 2015 and Electricity Safety Regulations.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD 3D; MicroStation CAD is desirable.
• Full UK driving license.
