Summary

Freedom is seeking an OHL Design Engineer to join the electrical services design team in Perth, Scotland, working on complex engineering projects aligned with the country’s Net Zero targets. Projects span the entire energy system from generation to load-end consumers.

The successful candidate will work with the team lead on the design and delivery of overhead line (OHL) projects, providing technical expertise and guidance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Design and develop OHL projects ensuring compliance with standards and client requirements.
• Develop technical solutions, including conductor sizing, insulator selection, lightning protection, and structure design.
• Review and approve technical documents.
• Liaise with stakeholders to ensure timely project delivery.
• Support and mentor team members.
• Operate within quality assurance standards.
• Participate in site visits and meetings.

Qualifications and experience required:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in OHL design, especially in power transmission/distribution.
• Knowledge of UK OHL design standards.
• Experience with design software like PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER.
• Good communication skills.
• Project management skills and understanding of contracts like NEC.
• Knowledge of CDM 2015 and electrical safety regulations.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD 3D; MicroStation (desirable).
• Full UK driving license.
