OHL Engineer – 400kV Transmission

Contract: Long Term – Inside IR35

We are seeking an experienced Overhead Line (OHL) Engineer with a strong background in high-voltage transmission systems, specifically 400kV infrastructure.

You will be responsible for the design, assessment, and construction support of overhead line projects across the UK.

Responsibilities include:

• Design and engineering of 400kV overhead line systems, including route planning, structure selection, and conductor configuration
• Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and industry standards (e.g. ENA TS, National Grid standards)
• Perform structural analysis and loading calculations for towers and line components
• Conduct site visits, inspections, and surveys as required
• Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and other engineering disciplines
• Ensure compliance with HSE requirements and project quality standards

Essential qualifications and experience:

• Proven experience as an OHL Engineer on transmission projects (132kV–400kV)
• Strong understanding of National Grid and other UK DNO/TO standards
• Proficient with design software (e.g. PLS-CADD, TOWER, AutoCAD)
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IET, ICE) is desirable
• Willingness to travel to site locations as required
