Overview

Overhead Line Design Engineer (Principal, Senior or Experienced) - Energy | Expression of Interest at Stantec. The UK&I energy sector is undergoing a seismic shift, with surging demand, stricter regulations, and ambitious net-zero goals driving innovation. We are exploring future opportunities in line with our growth strategy to join our Transmission & Distribution team, with roles based in UK offices.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a wide range of overhead line (OHL) projects — producing and reviewing technical documents in line with industry standards.
  • Develop design criteria, conductor selection, structure type selection, insulation coordination and lightning performance.
  • Develop typical OHL design deliverables — line schedules, plan/profile drawings, staking tables and special crossings design.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to assess technical and economic viability of proposed projects.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (e.g., civil, structural) to ensure overall project integrity.

Qualifications

  • Ideally a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Structural or Civil Engineering; industry experience from hands-on/construction pathways considered.
  • CEng, IEng registration or working towards registration would be beneficial.
  • Experience as an Overhead Line Design Engineer or similar role on Transmission and Distribution projects.
  • Experience with UK design requirements; familiarity with PLS-CADD for both new OHL designs and modifications to existing designs.
  • Understanding of complimentary T&D disciplines (e.g., HV Plant design, HV Cable design, or T&D Civil design) is beneficial.
  • Experience developing OHL deliverables and managing OHL delivery across multiple projects.
  • Team player with a passion for innovation and client service; open to development and growth within the team.
